Moving, updates
Well, it looks like moving into the new flat is upon the horizon after much time-wasting and general ineptitude on behalf of our seller (and their solicitors).
On the other hand, our solicitor at Coles Miller has been nothing but helpful. He has always contacted us before we’ve had to prompt him for anything and has always kept us informed and tried to expedite the process as much as possible. I’ve been really impressed with his performance and will definitely come back to Coles Miller when I require the actions of a solicitors in the future.
Now that we are to be moving soon, I have the happy-fun job of telling all the people to whom bills are being paid that I’m no longer responsible and someone else is. Getting out of paying people (regardless of whether or not it’s for legitimate reasons) always seems to be made harder than it has to be in my experience. Sigh… We’ve also been looking at spending all my hard-earnt money on furniture, appliances and shelves. Lots, and lots of shelves. We (Dru and I) have over a 1000 books between us and the collection is growing all the time. Not to mention the 700-odd DVD/CDs we have currently being stored in 2 of those big 320 disc boxes, which, while small, still leaves us with a bunch of DVD cases to store so doesn’t really save any space at all.
Among the many things we want to buy for the new flat, I am caving into temptation finally – in line with the recent price drop on the PS3. I’m planning on getting a nice 37in HDTV and a PS3 to go with it. The TV I’m planning on getting also has a VGA and AUDIO in which means I can plug a PC into it and have it serve as a media box without having to setup annoying TV-out settings (if the PC even has a TV-out) or deal with separate speakers. I might use MythTV, but I’m tempted to just write my own because none I’ve seen do anything in quite the way I want, though I expect I’ll get fed up with waiting to finish my software if I ever start it and slap MythTV on it unless I suddenly come accross a cheap Xbox with XBMC on it, or XBMC gets released as a usable piece of Linux software.
In other news I’ve been:
- ill after eating gone off meat
- making fun of self-help hypnosis CDs (though I may decide to go on a ‘vision quest’ myself, just so I can at least say I’ve tried it (though after I’ve knocked it I suppose, oh well)
- trying desperately to get friends that I know have technical skills and need jobs to learn Ruby and Rails so work will find them it least employable to some degree
- lamenting the fact the there is so much work to do and not enough time to do it
- eating a metric fuck-ton of mini-WHAM bars. Damn I love those things.
- reading books too fast again
- enjoying the first issue of Black Static
- forgetting my birthday
- spiraling into a miasma of emotion, caught in the sticky web woven of the thin lines that separate light and dark
Okay, scratch that last one. But things have been changing on the emotional front. With the iminent move, and the confirmed date of the wedding, I’m feeling closer and closer to Dru. Well, not so much closer, but more natural. Instead of just feeling like to people living together because we love each other, it now also feels like we are together because it just belongs, it just is like 1 plus 1 equalling 2, or any universal constant in physics being the value it is. There isn’t any reason why, it just is because its right. I guess I’m getting mushy in my old age.
With November coming up, I’m looking forwards to seeing Porcupine Tree and Anathema in Oxford. I’m also looking forwards to failing NaNoWriMo again this year, though each year I’ve been getting slightly closer (well, actually I haven’t been keeping track, so that assertion may be a lie, but don’t shatter my lie, its the only hope I have left!) so hopefully this year will get me over the 50k word boundary and into the sweet, sweet light of the NaNoWriMo winners hall of fame.
