Shadowrun and other things

Last weekend I went to the Dorset County Faire in Dorchester. It was pretty good and a bought lots of yummy cheeses and sausages like I did last year. I also got a firefox hand puppet, which is going to become my assistant GM – especially if one of my Shadowrun players takes a red panda as a mentor spirit. Dru got her hands on some ferrets (which she desperately wants as pets) and while cute, I still have to say no. Pets just pose too much expensive and complications. Maybe later when we’ve settled into the new place.

Speaking of which, I’m slowly getting my head around GMing Shadowrun 4th edition. I’ve never GMed Shadowrun, and only played Shadowrun 2nd edition once a long time ago, but also liked the setting and the system and wanted to give it a go. Even though I’ve only played 4 or so sessions (2 fo my Friday group, 2 for my Sunday group) I’m coming of the opinion that there are a fair few flaws in the rules and so I’m using Serbitars House-rule Package. Also, a lot of my players are completely unfamiliar with Shadowrun so I’ve assigned the homework in the form of reading one of the Shadowrun novels I have as a kind of ‘flavour’ builder.

On a slightly intimidating note, I might be moving my Friday group to Bill’s so that he can play. Bill has been my GM on several games and he is quite the veteran GM and quite good at it. I’m a little nervous about GMing a game with him as a PC since I’ve never been that confident in by GMing skills, though most people I’ve GMed for seem happy enough with my performance.

Speaking of roleplay, my character on Tuesday (a WEG Starwars games) seems to have turned into Steven Seagal. I’m playing an Ortolan (the blue elephant people) who is a Jedi and a Chef. A bit Seagal-ish by itself. But last night my character was at a social function, dipped into the kitchen to help the staff out (after heading there to compliment the chef and exchange recipes), cooking the most popular dishes at the event, and then, when JAN operatives crashed the party, kicked their asses. I’m just a Chef!

Things are looking up with the house move, so hopefully things will complete within a month or so, woohoo!
