All I can think about is the number

Today Dru and I saw ‘The Number 23’, an extremely kick-ass film starring Jim Carrey.

I won’t spoil it, but the synopsis is that it is about a guy who become increasingly obsessed with the number 23 after reading a book entitled ‘The Number 23’. It’s very good. The film is full of occurrences of the number throughout, some extremely subtle, some not. It great how it leaves them out there so you can find them, until you start hunting for them and seeing them everywhere – even in ways that were no doubt not intentional. The human mind is a wonderful thing, allowing you to play games with it like that.

We spent the trip back from the cinema pointing out occurrences of the number in license plates, phone numbers, bus signs and various other things.

    Damn that movie was cool.

    New Theme

I’ve decided to simplify my blog and so I’ve switched to the Reddish theme, Though I’ve made the red grey, so I guess its more Greyish than Reddish.

Anyway, I think it makes it a lot nicer to use and eventually I’ll set about customising it a little more.

Now I’m going to cover the talks by James Cox, Damien Tanner, Ben Griffiths, Eleanor McHugh and the after-show party.

    Ruby on Rails Exchange

Well, we made it to the first RoR eXchange – a mini-conference organised by skillsmatter up in London. On the speakers list were some cool people, namely:

    • Chad Fowler
    • Tom Locke
    • Paul Battley
    • James Cox
    • Damien Tanner
    • Ben Griffiths
    • Eleanor McHugh

On the whole it turned out well and I’m looking forwards to the next one.

    Cool stuff this week

Woohoo! Recently Dru and I signed up for a place on the shared housing scheme and today I got a letter through offering a viewing for some flats in Harbour Reach, just over the bridge in Hamworthy. I’m quite excited. Its just about affordable and we will at last have a place of our own – that we own (at least in part at first)!

I’m also hoping to make it to the Dorset LUG meeting tonight, since I think I missed the last few and if I’m lucky, I’ll go up to London on Friday for the first RubyonRails eXchange mini-conference. Yay.

Its turning out to be a good week.

OpenTV – Your Chance to tell the BBC to ‘Do The Right Thing’

The BBC are doing an open consultation for their new media download service and some of the questions cover support for multiple operating systems beyond just Microsoft Windows and hint at issues like DRM.

Make sure you tell them what you want!
