Christmas

This christmas kicked ass. It was nice and quiet.

Everyone else had gone to spend christmas with someone else, so it was just me and Dru alone in the house. He just relaxed and watched movies, then we cooked christmas lunch, which was some extremely nice, high-quality steak fried in goose-fat, and some roast potatoes, carrots and parsnips in goose-fat. It was awesome, though Dru had a bit too much meat and couldn’t eat much else other than the huge slab of meat that was her steak.

All in all, it was really nice, really special.

Thats what christmas should be. Every other christmas I’ve had has never had this relaxed, just enjoy yourself and each others company attitude. Its always had a kind of “enforced jollification” about it, a sort of ‘have fun… or else’ cloud hanging over it. There always felt like there was so much pressure to have a good time, which always detracted from me actually having a good time. Not to mention the whole silliness with presents and the trap people often fall into of feeling to have to price-match each other gift-wise or one-up each other. The stress involved with buying things like that is horrible, and I refuse to participate.

However, this christmas was different, it was relaxed, stress-free and pleasurable just for the simple fact that Dru and I were together, enjoying each others company. Its a shame we don’t get as much time as we’d like together because of work and what not, otherwise it would be like christmas everyday.

Yesterday we went round her parents house and had dinner there (and picked up some presents). I mostly sat around coding on my laptop, playing Payback on my GP2X or reading the Iluminatus! Trilogy.

When we got home, on a crazy, expensive whim, I decided to buy everything on my Amazon wishlist. Well, to get it relatively soon, I ended up buying only 27 out of the 41 items for about £230, but still, not too bad overall. It’s kind of scary spending that much money on stuff I want. Which is odd, since I spent £850+ on a laptop recently, but that was a single item and for some reason it just seems like ‘more when I’m buying 27 things at once which, I suppose, it is.

Well, this year was the first year I can remember that I really enjoyed christmas as an adult, or at least not as a child. And not just enjoy it, but really enjoy it.

Today I’ll probably be off to Bournemouth for some shopping with Dru and to visit Mum and my b(r)other :P
