Darkliquid’s Crazy Recipe of the Day

    Ingredients:

    • Last nights left over seaweed from Chinese takeout
    • Instant Mash Mix
    • Bacon
    • Margarine
    • Cheese

Add mash mix, margarine and cheese to a bowl. Bowl water in kettle.
Meanwhile, cook bacon till its how you like it. Slice the bacon up and add to bowl.
Add boiling water to bowl and stir until it all looks like mashed potatoes. Now add seaweed.
Mix until throughly merged in, then enjoy with a glass of apple juice.

    Yummy!

    Edgy

Well, after much strife, I have successfully upgraded to Xubuntu Edgy.

Tried using the alternative cd upgrade, that died half way through. Then there was a lot of apt-get -f install and apt-get -f dist-upgrade going on until they had probelms, then I had to do some dpkg -r on some troublesome packages. I repeated that a few times until there were no more complaints, rebooted, setup automatix2 and kablammo, a system that was basically the same as before. Hurray!

Not quite the painless upgrade I was expecting.

    NaNoWriMo

    NaNoWriMo badge

Yes, I shall be participating in NaNoWriMo again this year – hopefully I’ll succeed this time aswell.

I plan on writing entirely in 2nd person this year as a challenge for myself, for another challenge I am also not going to do any planning or thinking about a plot at all until November 1st.

My ultimate song of all time

I can’t get enough of Panic by Anathema (lyrics). It is by far my favourite song. I never get tired of it and it always makes me feel good no matter the circumstances. The lyrics, the music, everything. It’s perfect.

    OpenContribution

I’ve been working on a project called OpenContribution. It’s a project to help people progress from level 1 to level 2 users (see MrBen’s blog entry).

So far we really need some people to come forwards with ideas and skills for the project. The vision is to create a webapplication to help people find ways and job to contribute to and for helping existing projects find people with the skills they need. A sort of job site for opensource but with more focus on community.

So head on over and share some ideas on the wiki – yet another way to contribute.

What the hell is wrong with people?

I come home today to find the bin with a bin-liner hanging out of it half full of crap, and the bin still full.

    What the fuck?

Why didn’t someone take out the trash? In fact, why doesn’t anyone do a fucking thing around here?

Me and Dru do nearly everything. I manage the house finances, I take out the trash and the recycling, I do the vacuuming, I help dry up, I grab the shopping when it arrives and put it away, I clear away the mess people leave in the living room. Dru cleans the bathroom, does the washing up, cleans the kitchen surfaces, does the vacuuming, cleans the living room and does the shopping.

What do other people do? Maybe clean the odd plate they use, rarely tidy up the living room, occasionally help with carrying the shopping. Nothing that even nearly equates with the amount of stuff we do. We don’t get thanked for it, we rarely even get acknowledged for it.

For fucks sake, it isn’t that hard to empty the trash once in a while, or put stuff away. Get of your fucking arses and start pulling your own weight for a change.

I don’t kow what happened. Everything started off fine, but as the months rolled on, especially since the incident things have just been shitty and I’m fed up with it.

When the lease ends, I will not be staying for a renewal.

    Drums

I want to do something else other than computer-related activities. Virtually all my skills are computer-based – the ones that aren’t are still technical – and I’d like something else I can focus on, to stop myself from getting bogged down with all my computer related knowledge.

Learning a musical instrument is idfferent and is something I’ve always wanted to do. So I’m considering getting myself a drum kit.

I’ve always wanted to learn how to drum. The challenge of the multitasking involved with drumming appeals to me, as well as just the sounds. I do love the sound of drums, I could listen to it quite happily without any other instruments to accompany it.

Well, now it seems that my childhood dream of drumming can become closer to reality. I’ve never before really had the means to afford or store a drum kit, but now I do and so I am seriously considering the investment.

I’m looking at electronic drum kits because I don’t really have the room to store an acoustic kit plus I’m not sure the noise would go down well. I’m looking at the lowend market, which seems to be around £350 because I’m not prepared to spend a great deal of money on something that I may decide later on to give up on. My interests often get fickle like that.

Anyway, I’m going to mull it over and see what my heart tells me. If I decide to buy them then its going to be an interesting adventure indeed.

    Birthday

Today is a grey, rainy (extremely rainy) day, everyone is leaving me alone in regards to birthday stuff, and I’m listening to my Loved music channel on Last.fm.

    Apparently, I am now 23.

Now this is what birthdays are all about.

    Little Adobe Plugin Fix

I found that the Adobe PDF plugin for Firefox wasn’t working, so I ran Firefox via the console to see the output. The plugin was complaining about not be able to find the XtCalloc symbol. I guessed this would be in libXt.so, so a quick test with LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libXt.so made the thing work, whoopee!

To fix it all the time, just edit your /usr/bin/firefox script to include the line:
    LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libXt.so

    somewhere near the beginning.
